Q: What is the material used in Firehut and how strong is it?

A: Firehut’s body is made of 3mm weather-resistant COR-TEN® steel, the firepit grate is made of 6mm carbon steel and other parts are made of 1mm stainless steel.

Q: How big is Firehut?

A: 141.5 cm high, 75 cm wide and 76 cm deep.

Q: How can the fireplace withstand extreme heat? According to my experience, no paint can withstand such heat.

A: It is true that extremely hot wood fire puts even metal to the test. However, Firehut has proven durable in tests and it is made of exceptionally thick steel. In addition, Firehut has no surface treatment: it is made of COR-TEN® steel that needs no painting. The surface creates patina and protection against deeper rusting. The surface does not leave any smells or flavours on food as painted surfaces usually would.

Q: What kind of accessories should I choose?

A: Choose the accessories according to the intended use of Firehut. You can buy more accessories after the purchase of the fireplace, too.

The grilling rack is an excellent choice for fast frying or grilling. It is also a handy option for fireplaces that are in common use in lean-tos or on campfire sites, for instance. The grilling rack always comes pre-installed with the fireplace.

Masterkit is the best choice for home and cottage if you are an experienced grilling specialist – or wish to become one. With it, you can cook nearly anything, even larger pieces of meat with indirect heat.

With the blazing board, you can prepare fish perfectly.

Q: Can I place Firehut on a wooden patio?

A: Yes, you can but you need a non-flammable surface, such as concrete tiles or a metal sheet, under Firehut. Our product selection also includes floor protection sheets.

With open fire, always remember the fire safety regulations: there should be 5–10 metres from the fireplace to the nearest building.

Also bear in mind that sparks may fly from the chimney to a distance of 2–3 metres. We recommend burning hardwood as softwood, especially resin-containing spruce, creates a lot of hot sparks.

Q: A question about COR-TEN steel: Does it leave colour stains easily if a garment, for instance, is in contact with it?

A: At first, some colour comes off COR-TEN® steel when touched. Some colour may also come off on the structures below the fireplace.
The surface has been pre-treated during production to achieve patina even before the fireplace is taken into use. When patina continues to develop and the colour becomes darker, in approximately 4–8 weeks, no more colour will come off and the product is completely maintenance-free.

What happens to steel if it is left in nature? It rusts! So does COR-TEN® steel, but only on the surface, not inside.

COR-TEN steel is very suitable for outdoor use around the year. When it is exposed to moisture, it creates a protective layer on its surface, which gives it the characteristic rough and rusty look and feel. FIREHUT endures Arctic weather conditions around the year and needs no cover even in the winter.

COR-TEN® steel is very suitable for outdoor use around the year: it is weather-resistant and creates its own protection against oxidation. It does not need to be painted, which makes this material an environmentally friendly choice.

When the fireplace is exposed to both wet and dry conditions, it creates a dense oxide layer, called patina, thanks to the copper, chromium, nickel and phosphorus that its steel contains.

COR-TEN® steel is also used in bridges, sea containers, facades and other special structures that require extremely high weather resistance. Indeed, the weather resistance of COR-TEN® steel is approximately seven times that of untreated steel.

We always pre-treat COR-TEN® steel before the delivery so the fireplace already looks natural when it is delivered to you.

During production, a rough coppery patina is created on the surface of the metal parts of the body. The surface gets its final, darker patina during the first weeks of use.
